Coach Klieman isn’t planning on leaving Manhattan any time soon. According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the K-State head coach agreed to terms with the University on a contract extension that pays him $44 million to coach the Wildcats through the 2030 season. The deal comes after Klieman led the Wildcats to a Big 12 Championship and Sugar Bowl appearance during the 2022 season. The Manhattan Senior Center celebrated its recent rebranding with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday. Center Director Liz Nelson cut the ribbon herself and explained how the center started off with a rather cumbersome name. Nelson said as time progressed, they realized the name was in need of a refresh. Despite the rebrand, Nelson said it is important for the community to understand that their mission and area of service has not changed. Local nonprofit Thrive is hosting its Musical May Day Extravaganza fundraiser Sunday. Thrive Flint Hills representative Tana Warner says the event promises plenty of fun for all ages. Warner encourages everyone to come out and learn more about their organization and the life-changing work they have done for community members struggling to make ends meet. The May Day Extravaganza runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Liquid Art Winery. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can check out Thrive’s Facebook page. Tickets are also available at the door.
Manhattan Parks and Recreation is looking forward to summertime as workers begin preparing the city’s pools and splash parks before opening back up this month. Parks and Rec Aquatics Recreation Specialist Sydni Baker says this year, all three pools and both splash parks will be up and running. Baker encourages those interested in registering children for swim lessons to do so now, with spots filling up fast as pool season approaches. The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art is hosting a highly unique performance Friday night on the K-State campus. Paul Rucker is a multimedia visual artist, composer, and musician, with a large portion of his work focusing on social justice issues in the United States. Rucker and five local musicians will present an improvisational and interactive musical performance titled “Hold: A Feeling or a Story”. Rucker, a self-taught cellist, said he has enjoyed performing a variety of music genres, but his true love is musical improv. Rucker said this performance will be unique even to him.
