A neuroscience research center operating out of Kansas State has received millions in grant funds, the second phase of the program which began in 2017. The National Institutes of Health provided over 11 million dollars to the K-State led Cognitive and Neurobiological Approaches to Plasticity Center. The funding will support work over the next 5 years, with researchers exploring how the human brain changes over time. CNAP Director Kimberly Kirkpatrick called the award a ‘fantastic achievement,’ adding they have plans to use the money to make significant infrastructure upgrades as well as support junior faculty development. Two Manhattan residents were injured around 10:45pm Sunday in the 6100 block of Anderson Avenue. RCPD responded to the scene where a 2003 Subaru Forester operated by 25-year-old Jose Castro-Rivera had been traveling west when he maneuvered to avoid a deer. Police say the vehicle left the road, partially overturned, and came to an up-right stop in a field. Castro-Rivera and his passenger, 22-year-old Axel Chaves, were both transported to Via Christi Hospital with minor injuries.

Riley County Police on Friday arrested a man in connection to a June 5th shooting. 25-year-old Tyrell Harper was taken into police custody just before 3 p.m. July 22nd. Harper is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as well as aggravated battery. Police accuse Harper of punching a 21-year-old woman in the face before shooting her in the leg in the 900 block of Bluemont Avenue in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 5th. MANHATTAN, Kansas (Kansas State Athletics) – K-State women’s basketball was successful in the classroom as well as the court during the 2021-22 season, as the Wildcats received Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Honor Roll Special Mention for its team grade point average last season. Of the three Big 12 programs to be included, K-State led all Big 12 programs with its team GPA. This year’s Baking competition at the Riley County Fair was cinnamon rolls, and the judges enjoyed their sweet assignment on Sunday. Riley County Commissioner John Ford joined Founder/Publisher Tyler Jackson of Manhattan City Lifestyle Magazine to judge the competition. The two enjoyed every entry, awarding a purple ribbon (excellent quality) to each. Manhattan’s Audrey Henderson shared why she enjoyed practicing for the competition.
