Manhattan City Park was the site of the 10th annual C. Clyde Jones 5K and Midge’s Mile Saturday. Participants gathered to show support for Shepherd’s Crossing, which is also celebrating its 20th anniversary. Development Officer and event namesake C. Clyde Jones says the event has evolved over the past decade and now allows people to participate virtually, a result of the COVID pandemic last year. The Community Conversations on Race and Reconciliation will talk about equity and inclusion in area education. The current series of the conversation is titled “Listening to Local Voices,” with Monday’s conversation titled MHK Equity and Inclusion in Education. Manhattan Nonviolence Initiative Director Susanne Glymour says the focus on the talk will be about people’s perceptions of those two words. A community push to bring everyone together is the key to the third annual Wamego Community Foundation Match Day. Daryn Soldan, Foundation Board Chair, says the inaugural event was in 2019, and each year since, the event has grown. Soldan says even through the pandemic and switching to a virtual setting last year, he says the funds grew from the first-year total of $180,000 plus the matching. WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita police say a 16-year-old girl is dead and three teenagers are in custody after shots were fired while two vehicles chased each other. Police Capt. Jeff Weible said officers went to an area near Wichita State University Thursday afternoon after receiving calls about shots being fired. A short time later, a vehicle carrying a group of teenagers arrived at Wesley Medical Center, with the 16-year-old victim in the car. WICHITA, Kan. — Authorities in Sedgwick County are investigating after a woman was found dead in the roadway. The body of the 26-year-old woman was found by a resident just after 7 a.m. Thursday. Emergency crews responded and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman’s name has not been released and authorities are still investigating how she died.

Manhattan-Ogden USD 383’s unofficial enrollment numbers are better than expected considering last year’s 300 student decrease from the year before. Assistant Superintendent Eric Reid says last year’s drop hurt the district’s five year average. Funding tied to enrollment will be something the district will have to watch in the near future. Reid says the district can also use the federal ESSER funds from COVID to help recover some of the losses. Riley County is reporting one more COVID related death, bringing the county’s total to 58. One Riley County resident has passed away after testing positive for COVID-19. A 28 year old unvaccinated male tested positive for COVID-19 on August 13th and died on September 14th at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Riley County has identified 116 new positive Coronavirus cases and 143 additional recoveries since the last report on September 15. Seven COVID-positive patients are currently under care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Of the five patients on the medical floor, four are unvaccinated. Two patients…
