KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A man was fatally shot during a shootout with police in Kansas City, Kansas after he allegedly tried to break into a home. Kansas City, Kansas police spokeswoman Nancy Chartrand told The Kansas City Star that the man had been shot by the homeowner when police arrived at the house Friday afternoon. Police say the man turned a gun on them. Then they shot at him. He died at the scene. It’s unclear if the man shot at police. Three officers involved in the shootout are on paid administrative leave per the agency’s standard procedures.
PLAINVILLE, Kan. — State authorities are investigating after a police officer shot and killed a woman with a gun in a small Kansas town. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said the shooting happened around 1 a.m. Sunday at a convenience store in Plainville, which is a town of about 2,000 people about 300 miles west of Kansas City, Kansas. TOPEKA, Kan. — Topeka police have arrested a suspect in last week’s shooting death. Police said Sunday that 38-year-old Marshall Stewart IV has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a gun in connection with Thursday’s shooting. Officers found Bradley Bellinder, 51, of Topeka with a gunshot wound after a shooting was reported Thursday night on Northwest Polk Street.

A Lawrence woman in her late 20s is the latest to bring forward additional rape allegations in an ongoing sex abuse case against a former Manhattan restaurant owner. The woman, who was 19 and living in Riley County at the time of the alleged incident, accuses Bob Iacobellis of raping her at his restaurant in August or September 2011. Iacobellis, who pleaded not guilty to the additional charge, now faces 27 counts of sexual assault and rape involving three minors and one adult. USD 475 Geary County Schools students and staff will not be required to wear face masks during the upcoming school year. The district is encouraging those who have not been vaccinated to continue wearing a mask, per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The Riley County Police Department is expanding its fingerprinting services for general licensing applications effective July 1. Among the application types involved in this expansion are teaching, daycare, adoption, nursing and insurance. Fingerprinting services will be available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the RCPD front lobby on a walk-in only basis. Prior to this expansion, RCPD fingerprinting services were only available for Concealed Carry Licensing. Fingerprinting will cost $20, or $32.50 for Concealed Carry Licensing, and can be paid with cash, check or money order.
