Junction City Police are investigating a Tuesday night disturbance that left several people hurt. Officers were called around 7:30 p.m. to the 800 block of South Washington Street for reports of a physical altercation. When they arrived, they found multiple people injured. Several were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say there’s no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation is still active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Junction City Police Department or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.

Riley County Police say a Manhattan man has been arrested in connection with Saturday’s shooting at the Country Meadow Residences on Marlatt Avenue. Officers say 38-year-old Jacques Toliver turned himself in Tuesday afternoon and was booked into the Riley County Jail on charges including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and criminal discharge of a firearm. He’s being held on a $1 million bond. The arrest stems from a Saturday afternoon shooting that left a 35-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. Manhattan High girls’ golf punched its ticket back to state in emphatic fashion Monday, dominating the Dodge City sub-state at Mariah Hills Golf Course with a team score of 299 to win by 37 strokes. In cold and windy conditions, the defending Class 6A state champions didn’t flinch. Junior Maddie Myers fired a 3-under-par 70 to claim medalist honors, while senior Kat Ball finished close behind with a 1-under 72 for runner-up. No injuries were reported after a brief electrical fire was reported Tuesday morning at the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan, located at 5th and Pierre Street. The Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to the facility around 10:30 a.m. for a structure fire. Staff reportedly used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire in a bathroom. No children were in the facility at the time and all staff had evacuated prior to firefighters arriving on scene. The annual Fall Apple Day Festival, set for this weekend at Fort Riley, was canceled amid the federal government shutdown. Apple Day is a longstanding tradition for the soldiers and families of the Big Red One, or the 1st Infantry Division. A Topeka man was arrested Saturday night after deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a rural residence west of Alma, according to the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were dispatched late in the evening on October 11 to the 34000 block of Old K-10 Road following a report of an unknown individual inside a home removing items. When deputies arrived, they found and detained the suspect, identified as 63-year-old Gary Purvis of Topeka.
