SELDEN, Kan. — The National Weather Service says a tornado has caused lots of property damage, but no serious injuries, in the northwestern Kansas town of Selden as strong storms raked the area. Sheridan County officials reported the tornado hit around 6:30 p.m. Monday, tearing off roofs, crumbling the stone and brick walls of downtown buildings, uprooting trees and crumpling at least one farm silo. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A federal judge has ruled that a federal prosecutor in Kansas with a history of questionable conduct committed misconduct in a drug case. U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree ruled last week that Terra Morehead did not provide important evidence to the defense in a drug case. The judge reduced the defendant’s sentence from 20 years to nine years because of Morehead’s actions. WICHITA, Kan. — A preliminary estimates says more than half of the homes in the small north-central Kansas town of Natoma were damaged by flash flooding during last weekend’s heavy rains. The Wichita Eagle reports the town of about 350 residents has about 250 homes. Mayor Rick Dunlap says about 120 homes had moderate to severe damage and another 15 are probably a total loss. About 22 businesses also had water damage, and one is possibly a total loss. Heavy rain caused Paradise Creek to flood on May 16. Water levels reached as high as 2 feet in some homes.
TOPEKA, Kan. — Officials concerned about the lack of veterinarians for the Kansas livestock industry are asking ranchers to help them address the issue. A task force comprised of state, livestock industry and university officials is starting the effort with a survey. The group hopes ranchers will respond to the online survey to help determine which parts of Kansas are most lacking in veterinarian care. WICHITA, Kan. — Someone who posted videos on TikTok showing a golf cart running over a sign on a Wichita golf course and a person chasing geese from a golf cart has been banned from all of the city’s park facilities for a year. Before the ban was handed down on Thursday, the city had asked on Twitter for help identifying the culprit.
