Herschel and Shantel Harrison along with their three children cut the ribbon on their new home dedication Saturday morning. Dozens of people gathered in downtown Manhattan early Saturday morning for the fourth annual Pink Pink Up the Pace 5K and Honor Walk. The event, which is put on by Downtown Manhattan Inc., aims to raise money for breast-cancer research. Judy Davis, who led The Crisis Center Inc. for nearly the better part of 35 years, passed away Friday at her home surrounded by family, following a battle with metastatic lung cancer. She was 74. Advocating for vulnerable women and their children was always a lifelong passion for Davis, who started what eventually became The Crisis Center in 1979, serving as its executive director from 1981 to 1992, and again from 1997 until her death. A quick stroll down Poyntz and you may witness works of art put on by Incite MHK, the passion project of six community members with pride for bringing Manhattan together through the arts. The funding for Kitty Castle and the latest mural came from Ward and Brenda Morgan’s fund at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation. The Riley County health department is close to vaccinating 30 percent of those eligible with the COVID vaccine. Speaking to the Riley County commission, Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs says the health department has fully vaccinated over 14,000 of the 62,000 residents eligible to receive the vaccine. However, there are 209 locations outside of Riley County where some residents are getting vaccinated, which means that number is likely much higher. “We know that about 40,000 vaccinations have been given.
