Members of the Manhattan Fire Department are beginning their annual fire hydrant maintenance program this week. Firefighters will spend the next several months flowing and painting hydrants across the city. Flowing is performed annually to ensure proper operation and to flush out water lines. It sometimes can cause yellow or rust-colored water in your home, so firefighters recommend if this happens, to run water in a bathtub or shower for a few minutes until it clears up. If it doesn’t clear up, contact the City of Manhattan Customer Service Office at 785-587-2480 or the Manhattan Fire Department at 785-587-4502. Residents…

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Lawrence will no longer allow minors to undergo conversion therapy designed to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The city commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to prohibit licensed providers from practicing the therapy in Lawrence.
