A Missouri man is behind bars for allegedly driving drunk and striking a house multiple times Monday afternoon. The Riley County Police Department says 60-year-old William Windle, of Independence, Missouri, was charged with single counts of driving under the influence and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. Police say Windle was westbound on Pierre when he veered south onto property near South 5th and Pierre and into the house. He also reportedly backed up and hit the house again before attempting to drive away. Windle was detained by officers on scene after coming to a stop nearby.…

An 18-year-old from Olathe was arrested this past weekend for a past Riley County warrant alleging rape. The Riley County Police Department noted in its weekend arrest report that Kane Harris was jailed Sept. 7 on a warrant for rape and aggravated criminal sodomy, investigated by the K-State Police Department. Spokesperson Andrew Moeller tells KMAN the complaint was filed last September, alleging Harris raped a then 18-year-old female victim. The crime was alleged to have occurred in Riley County. No further information has been provided.

Officers filed a report for theft in the 100 block of Bluemont Ave. in Manhattan on September 11, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Walmart was listed as the victim when it was reported a 20-year-old female suspect stole approximately $570 worth of merchandise while employed at the store the past two weeks. Austin Swafford, 39, of Manhattan was arrested on September 11, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. Non-resident student population at K-State for Fall 2023 is on the rise, according to Kansas State University President Richard Linton. Out-of-state enrollment at K-State is up 20% from the previous year. School visibility is important to drive these students to the University. Linton says athletics is a method to increase mindshare among potential out-of-state students. There is another method K-State is presently using to drive out-of-state residents to the school.
