JUNCTION CITY — Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf entered a plea of not guilty to a felony theft charge as well as a misdemeanor during an arraignment hearing Friday morning. According to the Dickinson County Attorney’s office, who is prosecuting Wolf in this matter, a jury trial date has been set for May 8-9 in Geary County District Court. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for March 29. Sheriff Wolf was arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in October for a misuse of public funds, a misdemeanor, and felony theft for gifting a department-owned firearm to a third party. LARNED — Twenty inmates at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility face felony charges after a riot at the prison in November. Pawnee County Attorney Doug McNett charged the inmates after a state prison official completed an investigation of the Nov. 6 uprising. McNett said in a news release Wednesday the 20 inmates were primarily responsible for the riots. He says he saw no evidence that inmates breached individual housing units in the prison’s Central Unit, and his office is treating the case as four self-contained riots occurring at the same time. WICHITA — The family of conservative billionaire Charles Koch isn’t pushing for property damage charges against a man who’s accused of driving through the private gate of a home. The Wichita Eagle reports that 40-year-old Aron James White is charged with ramming an officer’s patrol car last month. The collision injured an officer and passenger. But court records show that the residents requested that no charges be filed for damage to their property. Police at the crime scene said White also rammed a private security vehicle before driving through a security gate. Authorities hadn’t publicly identified the Kochs as victims…

TOPEKA — Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s election victory suggested that Kansas repudiated past GOP fiscal policies. Yet voters also encouraged top Republicans to pursue income tax relief by giving conservatives more power in the Legislature. TOPEKA — Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly is closing state offices in the Capitol’s Shawnee County after another round of winter weather. Kelly made the announcement after the National Weather Service issued a mixture of ice storm warnings and winter weather advisories Thursday for a large swath of the state. The Kansas Department of Transportation says many of the state’s roads are partially or completely snow-covered. CLAY CENTER — Kansas authorities say a Nebraska man who was reported missing earlier this week was found dead in his car. Clay County Sheriff Chuck Dunn says the body of 66-year-old Rick Kubes, of Auburn, Nebraska, was discovered Wednesday evening about 3 miles (4.83 kilometers) north of Clay Center on Kansas 15. Dunn says an official cause of death hasn’t been determined but it appeared Kubes had a medical issue because his vehicle had drifted off the road. A beauty store in the Manhattan Town Center was robbed in the early evening of Wednesday, Feb. 6, according to the Riley County police activity report. Ulta Beauty and a 24-year-old Ogden woman are listed as the victims in the RCPD report. Police were called just after 7 p.m. Wednesday when it was reported two unknown suspects took merchandise from the business. The loss is estimated at $2,000.
