President Joe Biden has awarded former U.S. Sen. K-State on Friday unveiled a collaborative office space meant to facilitate cooperation between the university and the private sector. The facility is in the Kansas State University Foundation’s Edge District and brings together three entities: the Kansas State University Research Foundation, the Office of Corporate Engagement and K-State 105. The first Republican to hold the 22nd District seat in the Kansas Senate in more than a decade said he wants to prioritize trust, local control and fiscal responsibility. Brad Starnes officially took office in the state legislature Monday after defeating incumbent Usha Reddi, a Democrat Senator and former Manhattan mayor, in a November upset. Manhattan Fire Department deputy fire chief Ryan Almes on Monday confirmed to the The Mercury the cause of the fire that rendered the house at 1217 Wyndham Heights uninhabitable on Dec. 25. MFD crews responded to the fire at 7:40 a.m. on Christmas and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the back of the one-story house with a walk-out basement. A Manhattan man remains behind bars following a Saturday morning arrest for robbery. 42-year-old Douglas Carson was arrested near 10:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Wreath Avenue on one count of burglary; dwelling to commit felony, theft, domestic violence or sexually motivated crime. He remains confined within the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $8,000.
