TOPEKA, Kan. — Topeka police responding to an early morning call about a shooting found a man suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Police said in a news release that 35-year-old Matthew Pressler of Topeka was pronounced dead at the scene. VIOLA, Kan. — Authorities say a Kansas mother and her four children were killed after hitting a semitrailer loaded with grain in southwest Sedgwick County. The Wichita Eagle reports that 32-year-old Jessica Noel of Viola was driving a Ford Expedition shortly before 5 p.m. Friday when authorities say the driver of a semitrailer loaded with grain ran a stop sign while headed east. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Kansas City, Kansas, police are investigating the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy. Police spokesman Dustin Dierenfeldt says officers were called to the Rosedale area of the city Saturday evening after gunshots were heard. LAWRENCE, Kan. — The city of Lawrence has reached a settlement with a Black driver who was shot by a police officer in 2018. The driver, Akira Lewis, filed an excessive force lawsuit after he was shot during a traffic stop. In court documents filed Friday, the city agreed to pay Lewis $80,000.
