Kansas State dished out 24 assists on 31 made field goals on Monday night, as four players reached double figures to defeat Omaha in Bramlage, 81-60. This is the seventh straight season K-State has opened with a 2-0 record. That’s according to a release from K-State Athletics. K-State was paced in scoring by freshman Rachel Ranke with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including a 6-of-12 effort from beyond the arc. Royals 1B Eric Hosmer was announced as an American League Silver Slugger Award winner on Thursday. The award honors the best offensive player at each position in each league. Hosmer posted a .318 batting average and .882 OPS with 25 home runs and 94 RBIs while playing in all 162 games for Kansas City this past season. K-State volleyball’s Kylee Zumach recorded her 1,000th-career kill Wednesday night, but No. 11 Kansas took the season’s second Sunflower Showdown in four sets, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22, at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. Zumach becomes just the fifth player in K-State history to play her entire career in the rally-scoring era (since 2001) and reach 1,000 kills. Kansas State senior linebacker Trent Tanking is one of 10 semifinalists for the 2017 Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on. That’s according to a release from K-State Athletics. Tanking is the fourth Wildcat semifinalist up for the award since its inception in 2010, joining offensive lineman B.J.
