The Royals had four walk-off wins during a homestand for the first time since April 2000. Brandon Moss hit a game-ending double off Tyler Clippard that lifted Kansas City over the White Sox 5-4 Sunday, extending Chicago’s longest losing streak in four years to nine games. Whit Merrifield, Jorge Bonifacio and Eric Hosmer hit consecutive home runs off Derek Holland in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead, and Merrifield hit another solo shot in the eighth off Dan Jennings to tie the score at 4. Mike Moustakas singled off Gregory Infante (0-1) leading off the ninth and pinch-runner Lorenzo…

Brandon Moss is getting hot as the Kansas City weather. Moss drove in four runs, Mike Moustakas had three RBI and the Kansas City Royals routed the error-prone Detroit Tigers 16-4 on Thursday night. It was Moss’ second straight game with multiple RBI after logging just two in his previous 29 games. Eric Hosmer and Whit Merrifield homered for the Royals, who moved within 1 1/2 games of first-place Cleveland in the AL Central. The 16 runs and 19 hits were season highs for Kansas City. For the first time in franchise history, the Royals scored four runs in four…
Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder is one of 19 FBS coaches to be named to the watch list for the 2017 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Trophy, according to K-State Athletics. Snyder, a 2015 inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame, is one of only two Big 12 coaches on this year’s list, joining Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy. Snyder has won the Dodd Trophy on two occasions as he led the Wildcats to a 11-0 regular season in 1998 and a Big 12 Championship in 2012. The Dodd Trophy, college football’s most coveted coaching award, celebrates the…

Ertz is the sixth Wildcat to be a candidate for the Davey O’Brien Award and third since…
(AP) The Detroit Tigers got along just fine without J.D. Martinez in their lineup. After trading their star outfielder to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Tigers pounded out 16 hits in a 9-3 rout of the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Nicholas Castellanos homered twice and drove in five, Victor Martinez had a pair of RBI and just about everyone else did something constructive. “I don’t know that you can replace J.D.,” said Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, whose club won its fourth straight. “We’ll do our best. Tonight was a good night for us.” The Tigers were presumed to be…

(AP) Jordan Zimmermann threw just about every pitch against Kansas City for a strike Monday night. Except the one that plunked Alcides Escobar. The Tigers’ veteran starter pounded the zone in a dominant performance against the Royals, and backed by long home runs from Nicholas Castellanos and Mikie Mahtook, he helped Detroit to a 10-2 rout to open a four-game series between AL Central rivals. The dominance was partly a result of first-pitch strikes to 24 of the 28 batters he faced, which helped Zimmermann (6-7) snap a personal three-game skid with his first win since June 3. As for…
