Texas right fielder Shin-Soo Choo lost Lorenzo Cain’s routine fly in the sun, and the ball glanced off his glove for an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning that lifted Royals over the Rangers 4-3 Sunday. Choo tried to shield his eyes, but even sunglasses didn’t help on Cain’s sliced flyball. Cain could empathize, having to fight off the sun to make three catches in center. K-State earned a first-place vote in the Big 12 preseason media poll for the first time since 2012 on Thursday, although the Wildcats were ultimately picked to finish in third place behind Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The Sooners receieved 19 first-place votes, while OSU earned 12. Texas follows K-State in the fourth place position in the poll. According to K-State Athletics, Kansas State totaled four football players named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team as chosen by media representatives who cover the league, the conference office announced Wednesday. Winston Dimel (fullback), Dalton Risner (offensive line) and D.J. Reed (defensive back) were joined by sophomore Reggie Walker (defensive line) to give the Wildcats the third-most players on the list behind Texas and defending champion Oklahoma.
