NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Bob Stoops had been the longest-tenured active head football coach. Not anymore. Stoops has retired after 18 seasons at Oklahoma. Stoops was 190-48 with the Sooners, winning 10 Big 12 titles and the 2000 national championship. The 56-year-old Stoops says the time is right to step down, but adds his health had nothing to do with his decision. The Sooners moved quickly to name a replacement, elevating offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. The 33-year-old Riley becomes the youngest head coach in the Bowl Subdivision.

In an announcement by the State of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, former K-State standout Priscilla Gary-Sweeney (women’s basketball) has been selected as a member of the 56th Anniversary Class of 2017. The induction class of 2017 will be enshrined in ceremonies on Sunday, October 1, at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in the Wichita Boathouse. According to a release from K-State Athletics, Gary-Sweeney is a two-time letter winner for the Wildcats from 1981-83, was the first K-State women’s basketball All-American in program history at the conclusion of the 1982-83 season. Moustakas hit a two-run shot with two outs in the ninth inning after Kansas City rallied from a six-run deficit, and the Royals snapped the Houston Astros’ 11-game winning streak with a 9-7 victory Tuesday night. According to a release from K-State Athletics, Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced the non-conference schedule for the 50th season on Tuesday. The Wildcats’ non-conference slate features nine home games and a pair of games in the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nevada. Yuli Gurriel hit a three-run homer, Brian McCann had a two-run shot and the Astros beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3 on Monday night for their 11th straight win.
