(AP) Kansas City Royals left-hander Brian Flynn is expected to be sidelined for eight weeks after falling through a barn roof at his Oklahoma residence. The Royals said Tuesday that Flynn broke a rib and had three minor vertebrae fractures. Flynn, who went to Wichita State, had a 2.60 ERA in one start and 35 relief appearances last season, allowing 38 hits in 55 2/3 innings. Del Miller, a mainstay on Kansas State’s football coaching staff under Bill Snyder for 20 years, announced his retirement from the coaching profession Monday. According to a release from K-State, Miller will remain on staff as a quality control coach through the end of his current contract, which expires in May. Miller, who has tutored some of the best quarterbacks and coached during some of the Wildcats’ most memorable seasons in school history, has helped K-State accumulate 150 wins, 12 bowl appearances and two Big 12 Championships during his tenure in Manhattan. Kansas City (AP) – The Royals have announced their $16 million, two-year contract with Jason Hammel, a move designed to shore up the starting rotation after the death of Yordano Ventura in a car accident last month. Hammel will make $5 million this season and $9 million next season, and the deal announced Wednesday includes a $2 million buyout of a 2019 mutual option. Hammel can make a $250,000 annual performance bonus if he throws 200 innings.
