Dallas, TX (ESPN) – The Big 12 has narrowed its list of expansion candidates to at least 12 schools. The 12 schools are Air Force, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Colorado State, UConn, Houston, Rice, South Florida, SMU, Temple and Tulane. Eight of the candidates still alive in the Big 12’s expansion sweepstakes are members of the American Athletic Conference: UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, South Florida, SMU, Temple and Tulane. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Chiefs have placed Justin Houston on the physically unable to perform list and put fellow linebacker Josh Mauga on injured reserve as they trimmed down to the NFL’s roster limit. Houston is still recovering from surgery in February to repair a non-functioning ACL in his left knee. He will continue his rehab and be evaluated by Dr. James Andrews during the Chiefs’ bye week in early October with the hope that he will play at some point this season. Boston (AP) – Raul Mondesi hit a bases-loaded triple and Eric Hosmer added a two-run single during an eight-run sixth inning, lifting the surging Kansas City Royals to a 10-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night to win their 7th straight series. The inning was the biggest for the Royals since they scored eight against Arizona on Aug. 5, 2014. Nori Aoki hit a grand slam in that inning.
