Incoming K-State running back Mike McCoy from Topeka High was the star of Saturday’s Shrine Bowl in Emporia. The East beat the West 48-27. McCoy led the East with 89 on 13 carries and four rushing touchdowns. The four touchdowns ties a Shrine Bowl record. He received the East’s Most Valuable Player award. The West’s MVP is also an incoming Wildcat. Ian Rudzik from Ulysses High scored on a 23 yard catch. That was his only catch on the day. Rudzik is coming to K-State to play linebacker. K-State football has received its 2nd commitment from a quarterback for the 2017 recruiting class. Sammy Wheeler, stands 6’4”, weighs 200 lbs and is a pro-style quarterback from St. James Academy in Lenexa, KS. Wheeler made his visit to Manhattan over the weekend and made the announcement to commit on his Twitter account last night. K-State was the only D-1 school to offer Wheeler. He had also received an offer from Missouri Southern State, and was being recruited by Wyoming.
