MANHATTAN, KS (K-State) – K-State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has added one of the nation’s top returning scorers, as Temira Poindexter has transferred to the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season. Poindexter will have one season of eligibility. Prior to coming to Manhattan, Poindexter filled her trophy case at Tulsa for the last three seasons. A Manhattan High alum and former K-State football player passed away this weekend. Terrale Johnson died on Saturday, April 20, at the age of 29. The 6’1” offensiive lineman played for head Coach Joe Schartz at Manhattan High and graduated in 2012. In college, Johnson played his first two seasons at Hutchinson Community College before transferring to K-State. Johnson played in 23 games for Bill Snyder. HOCKLEY, TX (K-State) – The Kansas State women’s golf team produced a final-round score of 1-over par 285 on Saturday to improve one spot to third place — its best placing ever in a conference tournament — at the 2024 Big 12 Championship held at the par-71, 6,249-yard Houston Oaks Golf Club. The Wildcats, who finished with a 54-hole score of 14-over par 866, bettered a fourth-place showing in 2009. The NCAA announced a set of rule changes Thursday that will make college football similar to the NFL. Adding the two-minute warning and coach-to-player helmet communications at the FBS level. Also, sideline tablets will be permitted for all three NCAA divisions. Like the NFL, the clock will stop with two minutes left in the 2nd and 4th quarters. The biggest adverse from fans about adding the two-minute warning to college football would be the possibility of TV adding an extra commercial to each half. Greg Sharpe, the voice of the Nebraska Huskers, announced on his radio show Monday that he has been diagnosed with cancer. Manhattan, KS – Following his visit to the Little Apple this weekend, Illinois-Chicago transfer CJ Jones has pledged his commitment to Jerome Tang and K-State men’s basketball. The 6’5 wing from East St. Louis averaged 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this past season. Also, shot a career best 37.8% from three. Orlando FL – They did it again. For the third consecutive year, the K-State Classy Cats won the D1A Pom national championship at The College Classic in Florida. K-State won the title with a final score of 94.54. Beating out 2nd place Arizona State by 0.58 points. Baylor finished in 3rd and Purdue was in 4th. The Classy Cats also won the Pom national title in 2022 and 2023. Other accolades this year include 2nd place in spirit showdown, 3rd place in D1A Jazz and was voted fan favorite.
