K-State men’s basketball has landed another guard out of the transfer portal. Cal State Fullerton’s 6’4″ guard Max Jones committed to K-State on Thursday. Jones also received interest from New Mexico, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Florida Atlantic and Loyola Chicago after entering the portal on March 21. Jones snuck into Manhattan for a midweek visit and made his commitment on the heels of it. In two seasons at Fullerton, Jones has averaged 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 56 games. The Manhattan High wrestling staff has earned national recognition for their success in the 2023-2024 season. The National Wrestling Coaches Association has named Manhattan High’s Shawn Bammes the Kansas High School coach of the year. Plus, Bammes’ assistant coaches Danny Grater, Dayton Crist, Ethan Sharp and Chad Wolf were named the Kansas Assistants of the Year. Back in February, the Indians won the 6A State title for the 5th time in program history and the 1st under third-year head coach Shawn Bammes. K-State Athletics – Following its stellar 2023-24 season, Kansas State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has been named the recipient of the 2024 Kansas Basketball Coaches Association (KBCA) Women’s Basketball Four-Year College Coach of the Year Award. This is the second time Mittie has earned the honor, collecting the distinction in 2017. Kansas State concluded the 2023-24 season with 26 wins, the most since the 2002-03 season. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State bolstered its linebacker corps on Tuesday as the Wildcats signed El Paso, Texas, native Alec Marenco (al-LICK mah-REN-coe) to a Financial Aid Agreement. Marenco, who is transferring to K-State from New Mexico, is the second FBS transfer signee by the Wildcats this spring after they picked up running back Dylan Edwards on Monday. Edwards, who is transferring in from Colorado and will have three years of eligibility remaining, returns to his home state after playing high school football at Derby.
