Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh has set up shop in the old Aggieville Burger King building at 1328 Laramie St. The Mexican fast-food chain is open 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays and from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to midnight Friday. The Museum of Art and Light hosted its inaugural gala Saturday night for business leaders and members of the community, which served as the opening showcase for Manhattan’s new state-of-the-art space. Museum executive director Erin Dragotto said her mission was to combine 21st-century technology with the visual and performing arts. “We used the fine art of the founding collection to capture the attention of the 21st-century audience member and also embrace digital art,” Dragotto said. “Because we also wanted to be creating, not only housing and preserving art, but also creating with artists as well.” To view the full article…
K-State and Fort Riley officials celebrated the renewal of the long-standing partnership between the two entities Thursday. President Richard Linton, Garrison Commander Gerald Nunziato and Major Gen. Monté Rone signed an intergovernmental support agreement to make it official. Local, state, and federal officials are celebrating the reopening of the Linear Trail and the Phase 1 completion of the $46 million Manhattan Levee Project. On Wednesday morning, residents and politicians gathered at Hayes Drive and Casement to witness the official unveiling of the two projects. Kansas Sen. Riley County Police, Fire, and Emergency Response Bomb Teams were called around 8 p.m. Thursday night to the 1000 block of Ratone street to investigate a potential bomb threat. After about 2 hours, officers determined the device to be “benign” and that there was no threat to the public. Emergency crews closed off Ratone from 10th to 11th street as officers put on blast suits and worked to clear a house after a “suspicious device” was thrown through a window. Spirit Halloween has recently opened a temporary location in the Manhattan Town Center shopping center next to Hibbett Sports. Commissioners — minus Mayor Susan Adamchak, who was absent from the meeting — on Tuesday unanimously approved a request for proposals for design-build services. This starts the process for what is expected to be a $10-million project, which will go back before commissioners in the coming months. The Riley County Police Department is investigating five separate incidents of theft that occurred in the overnight hours of October 1st. Three were motor vehicle thefts, and the other two involved items being taken from inside vehicles. A 2012 Chevy Silverado was reported stolen in the 1200 block of Kearney St, a Kawasaki ZX6R motorcycle was stolen in the 1000 block of Bertrand St, and a 2003 Yamaha T25 motorcycle was stolen in the 900 block of Clafin Rd.
