A Topeka man charged with three counts of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy pleaded not guilty to his charges Monday in Riley County District Court. LaMarques Atez Channel was arrested last April following a Riley County Police investigation into an incident from Oct. 25, 2019. All four counts are against a woman born in 1992. One charge of rape stems from a Dec. 10, 2024 incident. Manhattan’s city manager and members of the city commission this month received a letter from United States Attorney Ryan Kriegshauser, expressing concern about remarks made by a Manhattan Municipal Court judge and issuing a warning to the city. Manhattan City Manager Danielle Dulin on Monday confirmed she was “in receipt of a letter from the Department of Justice,” and the concerns within will be addressed. Riley County Police Department representatives on Tuesday said they found no evidence of criminal activity in the investigation of a man’s death last month. Police would not release the name of the man found dead near Linear Trail on Nov. 25. However, comments on RCPD’s social media post to avoid the area and posts made by the man’s mother have revealed him to be 38-year-old Clyde Shull. A new expansion at the Hilton Garden Inn set to complete summer 2026 will bring 40 additional guest rooms, providing accommodation for more attendees of the events held at the hotel’s event center. A Manhattan man convicted of rape in October received his sentencing Tuesday in Riley County District Court. Gavin Gregory Haberman, 21, will serve 12 years and 11 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections, as ordered by Judge Kendra Lewison. A jury on Oct. 31 found Haberman guilty of one count of rape against a woman he knows and not guilty of aggravated sexual battery against another woman. Antwajuane McNeil was sentenced Monday in Riley County District Court to a lifetime term of imprisonment for the first-degree murder of 58-year-old Don Stovall on October 2024. McNeil, 32, of Ogden was convicted of the murder at the completion of his November trial. The jury also found him guilty of 11 other charges, including two counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, two counts of battery, three counts of criminal threat and three counts of domestic battery. The victim in a case against a Haysville man said she made a TikTok about sexual crimes committed against her while she was asleep next to him. She testified Thursday in Riley County District Court during a jury trial for the case. Matthew Dunaey Klingforth, 18, is charged with rape, aggravated sexual battery and sexual battery against a woman born in 2003. A woman said she was trying to survive the night when a man she knew raped and beat her. The woman, 29, testified Tuesday in Riley County District Court to a jury for the trial of Ricky Dunklin. Dunklin, 30, St. George, is charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery. Attorneys for the defense and state gave conflicting accounts of evidence Tuesday morning in Riley County District Court during opening statements of the jury trial of a St. George man accused of sex crimes and kidnapping.
