KDOT Blue Gold Resized for WebKDOT released this travel alert Thursday afternoon regarding the K-State football game this weekend:

K-State Home Game Day Travel Update: Saturday, September 27, 2014

For K-State fans heading to Manhattan for this Saturday’s Home Football Game, please take note of the following construction projects and traffic impacts that may impact your game day commute. Drivers should expect some delays through the active project work zones and should allow plenty of extra time for their game day commutes.

SPECIAL YELLOW BRICK RIDE BIKE TRAFFIC: Approximately 80 bicyclists will be participating in a bike ride that begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Bicyclists will depart Wamego heading eastbound on U.S. 24 through St. Marys where they will then take local county roads back to the Maple Hill Truck Stop located south of I-70 before returning to Wamego. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department will be helping with traffic control along the bike route during Saturday’s event. Please be sure to watch out for the bicyclists and remember to share the road with them.

    I-70  > > >  From Topeka West to Manhattan

I-70 from 1st Street to 4th Street Bridge Repair Project

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Eastbound and westbound I-70 traffic will be shifted and placed side by side with ONE LANE in each direction on the existing eastbound I-70 lanes for bridge repair and resurfacing work beginning at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, June 9 through December 2014. Eastbound I-70 traffic will be reduced to one lane from just west of the 1st Street exit ramp to the 4th Street entrance ramp. Westbound I-70 traffic will be reduced to one lane from just east of the Indiana Avenue Bridge to just west of the 1st Street exit ramp. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late December 2014.

    U.S. 24  > > >  From Topeka West to Manhattan

U.S. 24 & Menoken Road Interchange Project (Shawnee County)

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 from Countryside Road to east of Menoken Road have now been shifted onto the NEW westbound lanes, placed side by side with one lane in each direction, and will remain in this traffic configuration beginning on Monday, July 21 through early fall 2014.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in late fall 2014.

U.S. 24 from Silver Lake to the Shawnee/Pottawatomie County Line (Shawnee County)

NEW! For this Saturday’s game day schedule, eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 just west of Silver Lake will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for both directions for approximately one mile (or less) for pavement testing work. This lane closure is tentative at this point in time, weather permitting. It would be best to allow extra time, just in case. WEEKDAY & SATURDAY LANE CLOSURES:  Eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 from west of Silver Lake to the Shawnee/Pottawatomie County Line will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for both directions several miles at a time for resurfacing work beginning on Friday, September 29 during daylight hours daily, Monday–Friday. Traffic will be directed via a flagger and pilot car operation and traffic control for this project is set up and taken down daily. Project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-October 2014.

U.S. 24 Bridge Replacement Project in St. Marys (Pottawatomie County)

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 from First Street to Grand Avenue in St. Marys is one lane each direction (normal configuration) and has been shifted slightly for bridge replacement work that began on Monday, June 23  Project work is scheduled to be completed in late October 2014.
