The Flint Hills Veterans Coalition has decided on a parade theme for the 2021 Veteran’s Day Parade.
Chuck Sexton, FHVC President, says this year’s parade will honor the 30th anniversary of the start of Desert Storm. Sexton says he, himself, went to Desert Storm, and talks about the importance of honoring those veteran’s this year.
“It’s those Desert Storm veterans getting together, as a group, and reminding people, as well as thanking those Vietnam veterans that supported us while we were gone and when we came back,” Sexton says.
Melody Sexton, FHVC Publicity Coordinator, adds that the start of the Veteran’s Day parade in Manhattan was the welcoming home of the Desert Storm veterans. She says Desert Storm hits a little closer to home than some might think.
“These people are in our community,” Melody says. “You might not know that some of them went to Desert Storm because they went and did their duty and fulfilled their service and came back.”
Chuck Sexton says that they are also hoping to make an addition to this year’s parade that requires the participation of those Desert Storm veterans.
“We’d like to have a marching unit from those soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as well as Vietnam veterans,” he adds.
Chuck says he believes 2021 is going to be a rebirth year, much like 1991 after Desert Storm when patriotism came back.
