The Fort Riley Museum is being remodeled, but they are still hosting events and opening temporary exhibits.
Dr. Bob Smith, Museum Complex Director, tells KMAN that on veterans day the museum will have an exhibit set up at the Dream Car museum in Manhattan. He talks more on the event.
“It’s going to be what we call our” Traveling Bros Show”, and it consists of mannequins, different historical items in cases, and also a photo exhibit of the division from 1917 all the way up to the current time period,” says Dr. Smith.
Dr. Smith also mentions another project that the museum is working on.
“In November we are working with the division here in commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Nuremberg Tribunals that began and the 1st infantry division, the 18th infantry regimen of the division, was instrumental in guarding the Nazi war criminals,” he says.
Dr. Smith says at this time the construction project on the new museum is going well and is on schedule. He anticipates an opening in early 2022. Until then, Dr. Smith says a temporary museum will be opening within the next few weeks in Building 247 on the Main Post.
