Manhattan State Senator Tom Hawk has announced his bid for a third term in the Kansas Legislature.
Hawk, who serves the 22nd District, which includes Riley, Clay and a portion of Geary County is the ranking minority member of the Senate Committee on Ways & Means, which funds key priorities for the state.
“As the world faces a serious public health crisis and with the challenges Kansans are likely to face in the coming days, months, and even years, I decided that there was no better day than today to file for re-election and stay engaged to keep supporting a stable and responsive state government,” Hawk said.
The final budget, which the legislature passed included coronavirus relief as well as additional funding for nursing homes and hospitals. Hawk has also served on the Joint Legislative Transportation Vision Task Force.
In a release Thursday, Hawk said he was very proud of the bipartisan work going into the new transportation program passed by lawmakers.
“We will now have a program that provides more resources to communities, addresses infrastructure problems in both rural and urban Kansas, and creates good-paying jobs.”
Senator Hawk spent 33 years in the Manhattan-Ogden school district and was elected to the State Senate in 2012. He also spent five years as a member of the Kansas House.
