An injury accident in Jackson County Wednesday morning claimed the life of a St. George man while a Manhattan woman and her infant child were able to escape.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that they found a passenger car, just after 2 a.m., rolled over on the side of the road near a rocky ravine just south of 254th Road on K-62, south of Soldier, Kansas. The driver, who was entrapped, was pronounced dead on scene. The driver was identified as 30-year-old Clifford Joseph Walsh of St. George.
The woman who escaped was identified as 17-year-old Emma Johnston. She was able to get to a nearby home to call for help. She and her baby were transpoted by EMS to Stormont Vail in Topeka for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
