    One dead, another injured after roll-over accident Friday near Riley

    One man died and a woman was seriously injured as the result of a two-vehicle roll-over accident that trapped occupants in their vehicle near Riley Friday afternoon.

    According to the KHP, just after 1 p.m. Friday a Ford Focus Northbound on Tuttle Creek Boulevard struck a southbound GMC Yukon when the Focus tried to turn left onto Madison Road. TCB was closed or partially closed through the 5 o’clock hour as first responders and investigators worked the scene.

    The Yukon’s driver was identified in the crash log as 48-year-old Blue Rapids resident Lamar Whitson III. He was declared dead in the 2 o’clock hour. Jill Whitson was seriously injured and taken to Stormont Vail Hospital for treatment. 18-year-old Haylee Whitson and 12-year-old Emma Whitson were also in the vehicle, they were not noted to have sustained any serious injuries. The occupants of the Focus, 29-year-old Daniel Gray of Lawrence and 25-year-old Chelsie Hallgrimson of Tonganoxie suffered no apparent injuries according to the report.

    Everyone involved in the collision were wearing seatbelts.
