MANHATTAN — The Manhattan Fire Department made quick work of a structure fire Thursday afternoon at 411 South 16th Street.
Firefighters arrived just before 4:30 p.m. and found the two-family dwelling with smoke showing from the building’s back side. The fire was extinguished within five minutes of firefighters arriving on scene. One occupant was transported by Riley County EMS to Via Christi Hospital for smoke inhalation. The scene was cleared within two hours.
The first floor of the one-story home was occupied at the time of the fire and the basement apartment was vacant. The American Red Cross is assisting the home’s occupants. Loss is estimated at $5,000 to the structure and $500 for the contents. A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The property owner is listed as I-70 Properties LLC. The resident agent is listed as Roger Seymour of Manhattan.
