Pottawatomie County held a public open house in Westmoreland Monday for the newly constructed Public Works Fleet Maintenance Facility.

County commissioners and staff gathered as they commemorated the completion of a project that has been in the works for over five years.

The building will replace Public Works’ nearly 85-year-old shop and allow the department to service all county vehicles.

Assistant public works director Lance Forgy says the new building is quite the upgrade.

Some of the facility’s more visible features are a truck lift an overhead crane, both pieces of equipment that the old shop did not contain.

Commissioner Dee McKee says the facility will enable the county to better serve the public.

She also says says all of the new equipment and equipment, which cost a total of about $2 million, will not come at any additional cost to tax payers.
