The Riley County Health Department is currently tracking multiple local COVID-19 outbreaks, including some among USD 383 sports teams.
“These recent outbreaks illustrate the importance of getting vaccinated,” Riley County health officer Julie Gibbs said. “We are encouraging parents to not only get themselves vaccinated but remind them that children 12 and older are also eligible.”
Gibbs is asking parents of those involved in the outbreaks to “be open and honest with health department contact tracers.”
Riley County has identified 20 new positive COVID-19 cases and 62 recoveries since June 2.
This brings the total number of active cases in Riley County 24.
The percent positive rate for the week of May 30 was 3.4 percent, or 14 positive cases out of 442 total tests.
Ascension Via Christi Hospital is caring for four COVID-19-positive patients, two of which are in the Intensive Care Unit.
Those who attended the youth vaccine clinic on May 20 may return for a second dose beginning June 10 from 9 a.m to 2 p.m.
