Weather Trouble

The  storm that came through the area Wednesday night has caused hazardous road conditions as well as power outages for many residents in the city of Manhattan and surrounding counties. Spokeswoman for Westar energy Erin Larow says the high winds have caused most of the outages, and are hampering crews as they try to get out and repair the damage. Larow also cites hazardous road conditions as a major problem as crews from surrounding counties mobilize and try to get the the areas that are most effected.

Larow says that there has been widespread outages all over Westar’s service area, but the hardest hit has been northeast Kansas. Howerver, places like Hutchenson, Wichita, and Emporia have also been affected.

It is also important to not assume that the power company knows that your power is out. Westar is encouraging customers to call 1-800-lightks to report an outage. They also suggest looking after your neighbors and loved ones, especially those that are elderly to make sure that they are taken care of in a power outage situation.
