About 10:30 Monday night, Brett and Anja Hightower heard what seemed like an explosion.
They ran out of their bedroom to find water pouring in through the ceiling above their kitchen, dining room and living room.
“It was coming in so fast and hard, finding weak spots and lower spots and puncturing through,” Brett said.
In the dark, with no power, they managed to figure out pretty quickly what had happened: A 60-year-old oak tree behind their house had essentially cracked in half and fallen over onto the middle of their roof, creating a crater that the rain poured through. Three big chunks of the tree that had punctured the roof and were sticking through.
