After one of the most decorated careers in school history, Manhattan High’s Caroline Ballard signed her letter of intent to play girls basketball at Washington University in St. Louis on Friday.
Washington has one of the most accomplished college basketball coaches around in Nancy Fahey. Fahey is the only division three coach to win five national championships. She has also won 20 league titles since she started at the school in 1986.
Ballard leaves Manhattan as the 4th all-time leading scorer in MHS history, and she was a part of the only senior class to ever play in the state tournament three times. Ballard was a reserve for the first of those trips in 2012, but started the final three years of her career, including state trips the past two seasons.
This past season Ballard averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game and was chosen second team all-state in 6A. She was also chosen to play in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game this summer.
Ballard also considered Newman, Colorado School of Mines and others before deciding on Washington University.
