A preliminary hearing that was to have been held Wednesday (June 25) has been moved, in a first degree murder case in Geary County District Court. Anthony Nichols faces the charge in the shooting death of Anthony Nixon, 37, of Junction City last September. His preliminary hearing is now set for July ninth. Nichols also faces a first degree murder charge in Riley County, in the stabbing death of John Burroughs, 68, which occurred about the same time as the Nixon death in Geary County. That preliminary hearing is set for July 16th.
And a competency hearing has been requested for a 27-year-old Fort Riley soldier who faces several counts including criminal threat, aggravated assault, interference with law enforcement, and three counts of misdemeanor battery. Kevin Guiller was taken into custody last week after a five and a half hour standoff involving negotiations with law enforcement authorities. Guiller’s hearing is set for July 18th.
Defendants in two Geary County cases waived preliminary hearings that were to have been held this past week. Allen Amenson, 27, of Junction City now faces a July 28th arraignment on rape and aggravated indecent liberties charges. Amenson was taken into custody in early May on two counts each of rape and aggravated indecent liberties.
And Michael Hall, 47, of Junction City waived his preliminary hearing in a felony animal cruelty case. Hall is expected to enter a plea at a July 11th arraignment. Hall was charged after reportedly hanging a German Shepherd puppy until it died.
In other Geary County court action, status hearings were set for July 17th for Trevor Triffet, 20, of Manhattan and William Cordray. Triffet was arrested May 20th on charges which include aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. The reported victim in the case is a 12-year-old female. Cordray was arrested last week on two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
