Just two weeks after defeating new Big 12 Conference member TCU in a thrilling contest at Bramlage Coliseum for their first league win, the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team had an encore performance against the Horned Frogs for their second as they hung on for a 57-54 win in Ft. Worth, Texas Saturday night and in the process snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first half only to see TCU slice it down to two points by halftime at 29-27. Once again K-State got their lead to double digits early in the second half, but then almost on cue, TCU cuts the lead to 39-38 with a 9-0 run of its own. K-State however only relinquished the lead for a brief time and finally was able to put away the scrappy Horned Frogs for the win.
Leading the way for Kansas State was Britney Chambers who scored 24 points and also moved into fifth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,721 points. Mariah White was the other player in double figures for the Wildcats with 11 points as K-State improved to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12 while TCU is still looking for its first win as a Big 12 member after six games.
The Wildcats are back on the Bramlage Coliseum hardwood on Wednesday night when they host the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
