Before continuing and ultimately approving progress on budget development, general obligation bond refinance, sale and disclosures, as well as voting on teacher contract non-renewals, Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 approved several items on their consent agenda.
This included a bid approval for approximately $120,000 to Diamond Roofing Company to replace the roof over the shops at Manhattan High School’s west campus. Other smaller budget allocation approvals went towards funding arts and special education needs during the consent agenda reviewed by board President, Marcia Rozell.
Superintendent Bob Shannon gave his update to the board, telling members of the cut to the Spanish language program at Eisenhower Middle School due to logistical issues resulting after the district was unable to find a new Spanish teacher.
Enrollment numbers are still not officially out until late September, but Central Enrollment numbers from the recent sign-up show 200 students less than enrolled last year. The total enrollment to USD 383 at that event turned out at 3,233. Although this is down from last year, it is still higher in comparison to a few years ago.
Shannon was quick to congratulate staff on a job well done during the meeting for their work at the district’s enrollment day, however board members also discussed improvements that could be made to the overall process for future enrollment dates.
Future meeting items on the board’s schedule includes more budget development, the middle school’s annual athletic & activity report, and an annual report by Head Start and Early Head Start.
