After an impressive 9-0 win the first game of Sunday’s split doubleheader, things went just the opposite way for the Kansas City Royals in Sunday’s second game. Former Royal Mike Aviles torched his former team with a career-high five runs batted in three of them on a home run as Cleveland bounced back for a 10-3 victory on Sunday evening to snap Kansas City’s three-game winning streak.
Cleveland jumped on Royals starter Will Smith (0-1) who was called up from AAA Omaha to pitch the game for two first inning runs and led 6-0 after three and a half innings. The Royals runs came on a two-run single by Chris Getz in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly by Lorenzo Cain in the eighth inning. The Royals with their victory earlier Sunday had improved to five games above .500 for the first time since April, 2011. The Royals still have a one half game lead over Detroit in the American League Central Division standings.
The Royals and Indians wrap up their four-game series on Monday evening at Kauffman Stadium, first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
