In the bottom of the eleventh inning, Eric Young Jr. smashed a 3-1 pitch off Royals reliever Luis Mendoza over the right field fence for his first ever game ending hit and just his second home run of the season.
The Royals (54-52), whose surge matched the team’s fifth-longest winning streak, were trying for their first 10-game run since they won 14 straight in 1994.
Kansas City tries to get back on track as they trail the first place Detroit Tigers in the AL Central by seven and a half games. Game two of the three game series in New York continues Saturday afternoon with a 12:10 pm first pitch from Citi Field.
