There is a growing problem for housing on post and it’s something that’s going to take some hard facts to fix.
“This has been a huge issue with Fort Riley and soldiers,” Ty Warner, Flint Hills Regional Council Executive Director, tells KMAN. “Now that the facility is at full nest, with all 18,000 soldiers back.”
The Flint Hills Regional council will be doing a data collection from surrounding communities near Fort Riley to better understand the housing situation on post.
“The garrison commander, Col. Bill Clark, had made an appeal to the communities,” Warner says. “To help them get better information about what’s coming online through about 2014.”
Warner suspects that once the data is collected that there will be a significant number of housing that could be filled by soliders and their families.
