Wamego’s USD 320 Board of Education approved the 2016 Budget with no opposition. At a Monday meeting, Superintendent Denise O’Dea said the 2016 budget is extremely tight, and went over the details. She said the local option budget funding is frozen by a Block Grant, requiring a mill levy increase of 2.005 mills. The total budget for the USD 320 District is over $28,789,742 – an increase of over $1,429,000.
The Board approved funding Capital Outlay by 4 mills. O’Dea said by funding Capital Outlay brings the balance up to $760,000, with over $300,000 of that amount already earmarked because of the funding cuts.
According to O’Dea, the District saw an increase in assessed valuation of over 4 million dollars to $81,052,457. The Board approved the 2016 budget by a vote of 6 to 0, with Board Member Bruce Coleman absent.
In other business, the Board approved a second reading of Food Service policy clarifications by a vote of 6 to 0.
