WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) Residents and city officials in Winfield say their town’s children will have another playground.
The playground at Island Park was destroyed in an arson fire last month. It was the second time since 2008 that arsonists ruined the playground.
Winfield City Manager Warren Porter tells KWCH that the city received an insurance check of $624,000 last week. However, the insurance company won’t give the city replacement coverage again, only liability. Porter says that could change the design of the park.
A Facebook page set up after the fire helped raise another $1,600 in donations.
A teenager was arrested after the first fire but Porter says police have made no arrests in the second fire.
