Say Road near Wamego Middle School might see a change in speed limit by the end of October.
The Pottawatomie County commission met Monday to confront the issue of speeding on the road during school hours. While there was no motion to make the road a school zone, the commission did ask public works director Leu Lowrey to research the matter to see what needs to be done to change the speed limit.
The public works department will conduct a survey which will look at traffic counts, speed counts and the number of kids who walk along the road after leaving the school. Once the survey is completed, the commission will have two options.
“They can take our recommendation or they can develop their own recommendation and set the speed limit at whatever they feel is appropriate,” Lowrey said.
The survey is expected to be finished in the next two to three weeks.
