Construction is expected to get underway on Pillsbury Crossing Road starting Tuesday morning.

The road will be shut down as workers install a new culvert. Riley County assistant public works director Rod Meredith says the road will be closed about a quarter-mile west of Pillsbury Cross Lane.

The project is expected to be completed in one to two working days barring inclemate weather.

The Riley County extension office is looking for volunteers to help with the county’s seventh annual tax assistance program.

Volunteers will help prepare taxes for low to moderate income families. The extension office is looking for anywhere between 15 to 20 volunteers.

“We’ll soon start our orientation process,” Wilson said. “Then through the months of December and January, we’ll provide training to those volunteers so they can pass the IRS certification exam and be ready to go when our site opens around the first part of February.”

If you are interested in taking part in the program, you can contact Wilson by phone at 537-6350 or email her at jrwilson@ksu.edu.

Elections for Riley County extension committees are set to get underway at the end of this week.

There are four committees in all: Agriculture, Family and Consumer Science, 4-H Youth Development, and Economic Development. Extension Director Jennifer Wilson says three new members will be appointed to each committee, serving a two-year term. New committee members will be expected to work with extension staff to assess community needs and  develop programs to cater to those needs.

You can cast your vote this Sunday at Pottorf Hall between 3:30 and 5:30. Ballots will also be accepted at the extension office from November 7th through the 10th between working hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
