Improvements to Poyntz Avenue and how to pay for them was a focus of the Manhattan City Commission Tuesday night during a work session.
The Commission was presented with two options to consider, one of which would fund the project at a 78/22 percent split between the Commission and area business owners, the second which would split the funding at 95/5 percent, the larger portion falling on the City.
“I think (the 95/5 split) is a really good approach to take,” Mayor Jim Sherow said. “This brings together whole this idea that all of us had from early on. That Downtown Redevelopment was a whole, that it wasn’t just north or south. It was a vision that encompassed the whole.”
Commissioner John Matta was only comfortable with the second option because of the history of Redevelopment.
“Literally kind of robbing that fund over the years to kind of fund the rest of this,” he said.
No action was taken, though the Commission, as a majority, did favor the 95/5 percent split.
