K-State women best KU to sweep Sunflower Showdown

Jalana Childs and Branshea Brown combined for 28 points as the K-State women beat KU 47-43 in the Sunflower Showdown on Sunday at Bramlage Coliseum.  In a game that featured nine ties and 11 lead changes, K-State would never lead by more than the final margin.  Childs scored 18 points, including the bucket with 3:05 left that would put the Cats ahead to stay.  After six Jayhawk misses that could’ve tied the game or given KU the lead, Brittany Chambers hit the clinching free throws with seven seconds left.  KU was led by 12 points and 17 rebounds from Aishah Sutherland, but lost leading scorer Carolyn Davis to a knee injury early.

The K-State women are now 16-8 on the season and 7-5 in the Big 12.  The Cats will travel to Oklahoma on Wednesday night for a 7:00pm tipoff.  KMAN will have the coverage from Norman with Brian Smoller and Randy Peterson on the K-State Sports Network at 6:30.
