Sunset Zoo’s Nature Exploration Center Grand Opening

By KMAN Staff on June 3, 2012 Local News

Despite the rainy weather, a large crowd came to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony for Sunset Zoo’s Nature Exploration Center.

The center features numerous multi-purpose classrooms with updated technology.  The interactive distance learning lab will even stream classes via web cam to other places throughout the state.  Mayor, Loren Pepperd says “many people may not realize about 25% of Sunset Zoo’s animals cannot be exhibited outside, such as various snakes and birds.”  The new classrooms will allow children to interact with these animals and learn more about them.  Other features include; a new entryway, gift shop, education animal ambassador rooms, and an education resource center for volunteers.

Besides enhancing the education programs with updated technology, the building is also eco-friendly.  Local products, lighting sensors, and water conservation are a few of the many eco-friendly features within the building.

The facility will also be rented out for private events such as weddings, family reunions and meetings.
