KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) The University of Kansas Hospital has transplanted its 1,000th liver followed soon after by the 1,001st transplant.
The hospital announced Wednesday the recipient of the 1,000th transplant was 60-year-old Brenda Higgins of Kansas City. Thirty-nine-year-old Deborah Ellerbusch of Newton received the 1,001st liver.
The hospital’s liver transplant program started in 1990.
Hospital officials say the program is among the 25 largest in the nation.
