The 13th Annual Manhattan Area Garden Show was held Saturday and Sunday at Pottorf Hall in Cico Park. The event featured ten seminars and over 20 vendors.
Saturday’s seminars kicked off at 10 a.m. with “How An Irrigation Audit May Improve Your Water Bill” presented by KSU Horticulture Agent-Cathie Lavis. Other KSU Horticulture seminars featured during the weekend-“Growing Kansas Fruit”, “Mulching to Hold Moisture”, “Preserving the Harvest”, “Irrigating Plants”, and “Spectacular Shrubs”.
Various booths shared information for gardening, the latest technology for gardens, water preservation techniques and a variety of garden activities. Some booths aimed their activities for the children, with bean bag tosses and guessing games.
The Kansas State University Gardens booth focused much of their efforts on their silent auction. Potted plants, University Garden Gala tickets, and seeds were among the prizes up for bid. Gardens Director, Scott McElwain said, “the proceeds go to our gardens for whatever we need that year”.
Other local vendors included- Eastside and Westside Markets, Hummel Tree Service, Master Landscape Inc., Riley County Extension, Blueville Nursery Inc., Sharp Creations and The Bee Herder’s Honey.
